Tarrant County Honors 35 Years of Dedicated Service By Naming County Administration Building After Retiring County Administrator

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, September 19, 2023 – The Tarrant County Commissioners Court announces a heartfelt tribute to the distinguished career of G.K. Maenius by naming the County Administration Building in his honor.

With an unparalleled 35 years of dedicated service, Maenius has been a driving force in shaping Tarrant County’s progress for decades.

The Commissioners Court unanimously passed a resolution to rename the County Administration Building, which will now be known as the G.K. Maenius Administration Building. The Commissioners Court unveiled the renaming of the building in his honor immediately following today’s Commissioners Court meeting.

Maenius is the longest serving County Administrator in Texas and the only County Administrator in Tarrant County’s history.

The Administration Building, which was built in 1980, houses various County departments and the Commissioners Courtroom, where Commissioners Court meetings have been held during his tenure.

During his time as County Administrator, Maenius has witnessed Tarrant County’s population nearly double from 1.1 million in 1988 to almost 2.2 million in 2023.

Maenius has worked with four County Judges – Roy English, Tom Vandergriff, Glen Whitley, and Tim O’Hare – and successfully served a county government that now has more than 4,600 employees and an operating budget of nearly $896 million.

“We believe naming the County Administration building after G.K. Maenius not only recognizes his remarkable career, but stands as a testament to the legacy he leaves behind, which will continue to have a lasting impact on Tarrant County for many years to come,” remarked County Judge Tim O’Hare.
