COVID-19 Booster Doses for Moderna, Johnson & Johnson Now Available from Tarrant County Public Health
Oct. 22, 2021 - (Tarrant County) – Tarrant County Public Health will be offering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster doses beginning today. Pfizer vaccine booster doses have already been available. The follow-up vaccinations boost the immune response in people who already had the initial doses.
For those who received a dose of Johnson & Johnson more than two months ago, everyone is now eligible for a second dose. Booster doses are now available for those who received either Moderna or Pfizer six or more months ago, who also meet one of these criteria established by the CDC:
- 65 years and older
- Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings [outdated link]
- Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
- Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings
Those eligible for their booster dose are encouraged to get their vaccination from their local pharmacy or another vaccine clinic. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots. However, it is still encouraged to get the booster for the same vaccine type that was originally administered, but it is not a requirement anymore.
The COVID-19 vaccines are free to the recipients, whether they are insured or uninsured.
COVID-19 causes respiratory illness with cough, fever and shortness of breath and may lead to bronchitis and severe pneumonia.
