I received a letter concerning my child...What does it mean?
Sometimes police agencies refer alleged law violations to Juvenile Services by mailing a police report describing the incident. The case will be assigned to a juvenile probation officer who will send a letter notifying you to bring your child in for an interview. If you are unable to attend at the suggested time, you should contact the probation officer to reschedule the interview.
The probation officer will meet with both you and your child to gain information to determine an appropriate disposition of the case. During the interview the probation officer will talk to your child about the events alleged in the police report. The purpose of the interview is to counsel your child about the potential consequences of his or her actions, to assess factors that place your child at risk for other violations, and to provide resources that may help.
