Health Disparities
Goal: Address Health Disparities in Tarrant County
History: In October, 2008, Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks, through the Tarrant County Public Health Department created a Health Equity Coordinator position to lead public health efforts in addressing health equity issues in the County, as well as researching best practices to reduce and eliminate health disparities in communities.
Actions: Activities through the years have included: staff training on health equity; community workshops, health surveys in African American and Hispanic Communities; collaborations with community organizations to address health disparities.
Results: Community based task forces to address the incidence of diabetes, hypertension, HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases; also community health assessments and programs to address obesity, community safety, and food policy issues.
