Seniors
Seniors
Seniors mean a lot to Commissioner Fickes and our office. After all, seniors represent the fastest-growing segment of our population here in Northeast Tarrant County. In 2009, Commissioner Fickes formed the Senior Task Force and asked them to provide a vision for how the county could serve the over-50 population in a more relevant and tangible way. The group brainstormed and asked to have their own health and lifestyle expo right here in their own backyard. That led to Empowering Seniors, which now attracts close to 2,800 people over the age of 50 on the first Friday of each October.
Our team recognizes that seniors face complicated situations and we work diligently to help seniors in two areas: recreation and transportation. Our individual city Senior Centers are dedicated to helping senior adults remain active, engaged and independent in their communities.
We also help provide transportation resources on a free or low-cost basis, so we have developed close relationships with six local volunteer Transportation Agencies. Together we are helping older adults support their ability to live independently in their homes and communities. Tarrant County also supports several Senior Agencies.
