Heat, shots and mosquitoes

As the old song goes, the heat is on --and we're in the middle of it. If you're still not clear on how the heat can hurt you, please review our "When it's hot as heck" webpage.

If your children haven't gotten their back-to-school shots yet, our partners at the Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County are having several "Back-to-School" immunization events this month. Here's their schedule.

Please be advised that Public Health's regular immunization clinics will be closed in August as our staff will be assisting the Immunization Collaboration with their efforts.

Little girl getting shot

We've also been fortunate this year to have found only one mosquito pool that has tested positive for West Nile Virus (at the time of this entry). But that doesn't mean it won't happen, or that there aren't that many mosquitoes out there. While it's up to each municipality as to if, when or where they decide to spray for mosquitoes, you can take specific measures to protect yourself and those you care about from mosquitoes. We even have a couple videos that can walk you through the process.

So stay cool, stay hydrated and stay safe. Summer will soon be over. Hopefully the heat won't linger too much afterward.

Sincerely,

Verrinder "Vinny" Taneja,

Director, Tarrant County Public Health
